Re-certification

Cisco CCNA, CCNP, and CCDP/CCDA certifications are valid for 3 years. To recertify, you will need to take the appropriate exam(s).

CCNA

For CCNA, there are several options to recertify. Take and pass one of the following:

• the current CCNA exam 640-801, or
• ICND – Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices 640-811, (This exam covers topics on Extending Switched Networks with VLANS, Determining IP Routes, Managing IP traffic with Access Lists, Establishing Pont-to-Point connections, and Establishing Frame Relay Connections.), or
• any one Professional or Qualified Specialist level exam with the prefix 642 (642 – xxx).

The above four exams also qualify for the CCNP certification.

CCNP

For CCNP recertification, take and pass the current

• Composite exam 642-891
  (The Composite exam (642-891) is the quickest way for currently certified Cisco Certified Network Professionals (CCNP®) and Cisco Certified Design Professionals (CCDP®) to obtain recertification.) You must pass both sections of this exam.
• You may also take both the BSCI and BCMSN exams:
  CIS 124 - 642-801 Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks, and
  CIS 126 - 642-811 Building Cisco Multilayer Switched Networks,

The exam tests skills and knowledge pertaining to the Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BSCI) and Building Cisco Managed Switched Networks (BCMSN) courses. MiraCosta courses CIS 124 and 126 prepare students for the Composite exam.

Composite may be taken to recertify CCNP and CCDP certifications; it may also be taken in place of the BSCI and BCMSN exams required for CCNP and CCDP certifications.

Candidates must successfully pass both routing and switching subsections of the Composite exam to successfully pass the exam.
