History of the Middle East

This course covers the history of the Middle East from origins to contemporary times. Topics include the political, social, and economic development of early Mesopotamia, the Persian Empire, the development of monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam), the Abbasid Caliphate, the Crusades, the Ottoman and Safavid empires, European imperialism, and modern Middle Eastern states.
