Policy & Procedures

Dear foreign language student:

Welcome to MiraCosta's Foreign Language Resource Center. Our labs at both Oceanside and San Elijo are designed to complement and enhance your learning experience. While the lab is not a tutoring or study center per se, it offers you the chance to practice on your own and learn with a variety of audio, video and computer activities for most of the foreign language sections offered at MCC (current offerings include: French, German, Japanese, Italian and Spanish). Please, keep in mind that your learning will be enhanced by attending the lab periodically throughout the semester. Rather than wait for the end to the term to fulfill your lab requirement, you should plan on coming to the lab for about 1/2 per week or 1 hour every other week during OPEN LAB hours. Your instructor expects you to adhere to the following schedule: 3 1/2 hours should be completed by the 9th and 3 1/2 hours should be completed by week 17 (end of the term).

Attendance Procedures

  • Fill out a LAB TIME CARD the first time you come to the OPEN LAB. These cards will be kept in the lab and will serve as the primary record of your attendance. You may use the form on the back of this sheet to keep track of your attendance.
  • STUDENTS ONLY: You will also need to sign in and sign out using the computer which will serve as a back-up record of your attendance. Tell the lab attendants what materials you will be working on and make sure that this is indicated on your LAB TIME CARD. They will complete and sign your card every time you come in.
  • Please, let the lab attendant know if your class is offered at the other campus. It's also a good idea to remind your instructor that you've put in time at the other lab.
  • In order to keep the lab as a useful, clean and inviting learning environment, you need to observe the following policies as well: - No eating, drinking, or smoking in the labs. No sleeping either. - No writing graffiti, defacing or damaging of the equipment. - No loud conversations or otherwise disruptive behavior. - No playing around with, modifying, tampering with or "repairing" of the equipment and software available in the lab (notify an attendant if you have any problems). Your help is greatly appreciated in this regard and I (and the rest of the FLRC staff) thank you in advance for your cooperation: DANKE DOMO ARIGATO MUCHAS GRACIAS MERCI
