Credit by Exam-Spanish
Credit by examination:
This is your best option if you are already proficient in a foreign language and all you need is the units to satisfy a requirement. No attendance is necessary; your time will be spent preparing for a comprehensive written final and a comprehensive speaking exam, both of which are representative of what a student should know at the end of the semester in a particular level.
You must be currently enrolled in at least three units at MiraCosta College to receive credit for any of the following courses:
- FREN 101, 102, 201, 202
- GRMN 101, 102
- ITAL 101, 102
- JAPN 101, 102
- SPAN 101, 102, 201, 202
- Currently, the International Languages Dept. at MiraCosta College does not offer credit by exam in Chinese. (You might want to check with another college to see if they do.)
Start the process by discussing this option with your academic advisor, who will be the first person to sign off on a "Credit by Institutional Examination" form. You should talk to your counselor as early as possible in the semester. All paperwork with all necessary signatures and payment must be completed and received by Admissions & Records by the end of the sixth week of classes (3rd week in the summer session). Once you have made your decision, please follow the procedures below carefully.

- Speak with your counselor to decide if this is an option for you. If it is, get counselor's signature.
- Contact David Detwiler to get instructor signature.

- Turn in all appropriate paperwork and pay for the Exam at Admissions and Records.
- Contact the Credit by Exam Coordinator to set up a time to meet:
- At the time of the meeting, be prepared to do the following:
- turn in the white Credit by Exam Form given to you by Admissions
- complete the oral assessment part of the exam or arrange a time to meet to take it
- receive the information outlining exam format and the dates on which the exam will be available for you to take.
- Students who sign up but fail to take the Credit By Exam test in the prescribed semester will receive an "F".
