International Language Departments

About the International Film Series

All films are presented in the original language with English subtitles.  The series is sponsored by the International Languages Department and is open to all. Admission is free.

There will be two showings of each film:

Fridays at 1 p.m., San Elijo Campus,

3333 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff, Room 204

The 200 building is on the west side of campus. Parking is free and a parking permit is not required for film series attendees.

Fridays at 7 p.m., Oceanside Campus,

One Barnard Drive, Oceanside, Room 3601 (Little Theatre)

The 3600 building is located on the northwest side of campus. Closest parking is Staff Lots 3E or 1C (and walk through the center of campus). Parking is free and a parking permit is not required for film series attendees.

"The Allende government is shaky, and in an attempt to appease the poor class, Saint Patrick's School takes on students from the shantytown to democratize education."  Directed by Andres Wood.

Rainbow Song

Japan, 2004 (119 minutes, NR)

"An aspiring director messages a picture of a rainbow to his longtime friend and crush only to find that she has passed away in a plane crash."  Directed by Iwai Sunjii.

"Sicilian peasant Salvatore yearns for a better life, one he believes exists only in the fabled land known as America."  Directed by Emanuele Crialese.

Eighteen short love stories, some happy, some sad by celebrated directors from around the world such as the Coehn brothers and Gus Van Sant.

"Martha, the domineering chef at a fancy restaurant, has her rigid routine broken when her nine year old niece comes to live with her." Directed by Sandra Nettelbeck.

Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress

China, 2002   (111 minutes, NR)

"During China's cultural revolution, two young men, university students, are sent to a remote mountain village to be purged of their decadent Western education."  Directed by Sijie Dai.
