Registration Information

Who can enroll?

You can if you are 18 years or older, or a high school graduate or equivalent, or under 18, enrolled in a day high school as a sophomore, junior, or senior with a Minor's Permit signed by the high school principal and counselor. In-home schooling students also must complete a Minor's Petition and verify completion of freshman year of high school education.

How do I enroll?

First get a MiraCosta College Credit Class Schedule. Schedules are available free of charge at both campuses and public libraries in Oceanside, Carlsbad, La Costa, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Cardiff, Del Mar, Carmel Valley, Vista and Fallbrook. If you would like us to mail a schedule to you, call the Public Information Office, (760) 795-6612 or email pio@miracosta.edu. The Credit Class Schedule is usually available two months before the semester starts. For example, the spring schedule should be available in early November and the fall schedule should be available in early May. Complete the application included in the class schedule and bring it to the Admissions and Records Office at either campus or mail it to: MiraCosta College, Admissions and Records Office, One Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056.

Check the Schedule of classes to determine the deadline to mail in your application. You will be required to bring in your application to Admissions and Records on the Oceanside or San Elijo campus after this date specified in the catalog.

How do I register for classes?

All students are eligible to register for classes online, using SURF. For complete SURF information, see pages A-1 through A-8 of the credit class schedule.

Important exceptions to SURF: Some students may need to have paperwork processed first before enrolling on SURF. Others may need to enroll in person at the Admissions and Records Office. Some of the exceptions are outlined below.

  • Students with class schedule time conflicts
  • Students who have not met or cleared the class prerequisite(s)
  • Students continuing in courses for which a previous grade of IP was issued
  • Students who want to take classes that require special permits or auditions
  • Course repeats
  • Auditing classes
  • Honor scholars/Enrichment seminars
  • Students whose fees are paid by Military Tuition Assistance

Late Registration is available through the first week of classes. Please check the Schedule of Classes to determine the last day this can be accomplished.

What are the fees?

Community College fees are determined by the California Legislature and therefore subject to change. The current enrollment fee for California residents is $26 per unit. Fee waivers are granted to students who meet eligibility requirements. Other fees: Student Center--$1 per unit but no more than $10 per year; Student ID card--$6 (optional); Health Services--$13. Fall and spring parking--$30 for cars and $15 for motorcycles. Summer parking--$15 for cars and $7.50 for motorcycles. The non-resident enrollment fee is $151 per unit in addition to the $26 per unit enrollment fee. Residency requirements are listed in the Schedule of Classes. Questions regarding residency should be directed to the Admissions and Records Office, (760) 795-6620.
