Annual or One-time Scholarship
You may fund a one-time scholarship with a gift or gifts that total $500. These scholarships can be directed to a type of student, with the exclusion of race, sex and ethnicity. Many donors choose to fund a particular type of student such as those who are financially needy and/or those studying a particular subject area. Most scholarships carry a GPA requirement, generally set at 3.0. We encourage donors to think as broadly as possible to ensure that we can find a student to whom we can award the scholarship. Donors who fund an annual or one-time scholarship will receive a note of appreciation from the scholarship recipient addressed to them unless the donor chooses to remain anonymous.
How to fund a scholarship
Scholarship donors create scholarship in a wide variety of ways. These are the most common:
- Write a check to the MiraCosta College Foundation and mail it to: 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside, CA 92056.
- Transfer appreciated stock to the MCC Foundation. This carries with it significant tax advantages. For more information on this, please contact Linda Fogerson, Executive Director, MiraCosta College Foundation at 760-795-6775 or email at lfogerson@miracosta.edu.
- Fundraise among your family and friends for a particular scholarship. The foundation will track the individuals who make gifts to the fund and let you who know who has participated in the effort.
Things to consider
When establishing a scholarship fund it is important to remember to keep your scholarship as broad as possible, limiting your criteria to one or two, at the most three, characteristics. Common criteria include financial need and minimum GPA.
