James Sweeney, Founder, Standard Manufacturing (Retired)
“Choosing my profession was truly a matter of LUCK,” Jim states. He began at Douglas Aircraft Missiles and Space Division reviewing photographs of missile flights. This led to the Ampex Corporation where he was introduced to television systems, further enhancing his understanding of photograph technology. He then started three companies, the last of which focused on building photo processing machines. Fellow board member Ed Eginton introduced Jim to the MiraCosta College Foundation and its vital mission of helping students gain access to higher education. He and his “partner, best friend and wife” Dottie live in North County. Their seven children all live in the western United States.
