Written by Carlsbad resident Walton Jones, The 1940’s Radio Hour has captured the spirit of the 1940’s era with Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, That Old Black Magic, Blue Moon and more. A seedy New York radio station takes to the air at the beginning of World War II in a “live” broadcast for the troops overseas. Big band music, swing dancing, quirky characters and good old-fashioned fun make this a show you won’t want to miss.

Starring Jonathan McMurtry and directed by North Coast Repertory Theatre’s Artistic Director, David Ellenstein, The Tempest is a must-see theatre event in North County this year. Based on an ancient Chinese story, this play is an epic tale of sacrifice and justice. In the land of Caucasus when war begins, a kitchen maid risks her own life to save the life of a noble child. Escaping the city, where the child would certainly be murdered, she takes the infant with her on a perilous journey. But when the wealthy mother returns to claim him, their fates lie in the hands of a wily, unpredictable judge who will determine the child’s true mother by the test of the chalk circle.

Join local economic, academic and history experts and community leaders for a morning seminar designed to provide perspective on Californiaˇ¦s real estate market and the road to economic recovery. Keynote speaker is Dr. Richard K. Green, director of the Lusk Center for Real Estate at University of Southern California, who will address the topic “Is There Reason for Hope: Some Facts About California and its Real Estate Markets.”

Also scheduled is MiraCosta College history instructor Dr. Brad Byrom, who will present an overview of historical trends in California real estate and MiraCosta’s Superintendent/President Dr. Francisco Rodriguez, who will speak on the community college’s role in California’s economic recovery.

A continental breakfast will be held on the Theatre patio before the event.

MiraCosta College massage therapy students are pleased to offer discounted massages to the community. Massages are instructor-supervised and utilize Swedish massage techniques. Appointments are available at either 12:45 p.m. or 2 p.m. Clients must be at least eighteen years of age.
