MiraCosta College's Executive Director of Fund Development Earns Planned Giving Specialist Certification

MiraCosta College Executive Director of Fund Development and College Foundation Linda Fogerson has become a Certified Specialist in Planned Giving.  The certification was awarded after completing a year-long graduate-level program offered by the American Institute for Philanthropic Studies and facilitated by California State University, Long Beach.  The intensive program provided detailed instruction on planned giving, estate and financial planning as well as nonprofit management. 

“The instruction provided me with the background I need to understand, manage and facilitate planned gifts to MiraCosta College,” says Fogerson. 

Fogerson was selected as executive director of fund development and college foundation in 2004.  She has more than 20 years fundraising experience, including ten years serving as the director of corporate relations at CSU San Marcos and five years at UCSD as external affairs coordinator.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from the University of Oregon in Eugene. 

Founded in 1966, the MiraCosta College Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt 501(c)3 corporation. Its purpose is to receive and administer private gifts, bequests and donations to benefit MiraCosta College students and to enhance the quality of education at the college.

In the past year, the MiraCosta College Foundation provided $219,000 to the college for student scholarships, teacher grants and other programs and raised more than a half-million dollars. Today, the foundation’s total net assets stand at nearly $5 million.
