MiraCosta College Names Pamela Deegan Interim Vice President of Instruction
MiraCosta College has named Pamela Deegan its new Interim Vice President of Instruction.
Deegan comes to MiraCosta from Mt. San Jacinto College, where she served as vice president of instruction. In that role, she worked with deans and department chairs to plan, organize and administer the college’s instructional programs and coordinated administrative functions of academic departments.
Previously she worked as vice president of instruction for Miramar College; dean of instruction services at Santiago Canyon College; and dean of instructional programs at Irvine Valley College, where she also served as chair of the Health Science, Physical Education and Athletics School as well as the Life Sciences and Technologies School. She also has more than 20 years teaching experience in the physical education and athletics field.
Deegan holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Los Angeles; a master’s degree in physical education from California State University, Los Angeles; and is in the process of completing a doctor of education degree in community college leadership from Oregon State University. She was the 2007 recipient of the Association of California Community College Administrators Award for Administrative Excellence. She has also served on many councils and committees, including as the 2005-2006 president of the California Community College Chief Instructional Officers and a consultant council member for California Community Colleges.
At MiraCosta, Deegan will oversee the Instructional Services Department; administer curriculum (credit, noncredit and not-for-credit); supervise facilities use District-wide; assure compliance with state and federal regulations; oversee academic/administrative computing; and encourage transfer/articulation. She will also work with faculty, staff and management to continue to improve and serve the higher education needs of our community.

Deegan will begin at MiraCosta College on Monday, November 5. Deegan will be succeeding Vice President of Student Services Dick Robertson, who has held the position of interim vice president of instruction for the past year.
