MiraCosta to Help Needy Children Through Holiday Angel Project
For the 20th consecutive year, MiraCosta College students and staff as well as community members will have the opportunity to give a local needy child the gift of his or her dreams––by taking an angel off the Christmas trees in the Administration Building and the Library and Information Hub at the college’s San Elijo Campus at 3333 Manchester Ave., Cardiff; the Student Center at the Oceanside campus at 1 Barnard Drive; or the college’s Community Learning Center at 1831 Mission Ave., Oceanside.
Each child's first name and wish appears on a paper angel hanging on the tree. Those who want to buy a gift for a child take an angel from the tree, "sign out" the angel with MiraCosta staff, purchase the gift, wrap it using the paper angel as a tag, and bring it to the appropriate location by Dec. 10. Names and wishes of children have been obtained from St. Leo’s Head Start, Cardiff School District, Encinitas School District, Solana Beach School District, and needy MiraCosta student-parents in the college’s EOPS program.
The Holiday Angel Project is expected to provide gifts to 600 children. MiraCosta students will deliver gifts to children’s homes in the southern portion of the college district on Dec. 15. Volunteers are needed to help; call (760) 634-7806 for additional information or to volunteer.
