Kruglak Gallery to Present First Art Show of 2008

MiraCosta College’s Kruglak Gallery will open up its 2008 season featuring paintings by Martin Facey and Lek Namnath. "Botany and Maalang: Neo Pop-Surrealism" is slated for January 29 - February 21 (closed  Monday, February 18) in the gallery, located in the MiraCosta College Student Center on the Oceanside Campus, 1 Barnard Drive.  Hours are Monday-Thursday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, 6-7:30 p.m.  Talks with the artists are scheduled for Thursday, February 7 at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a reception will be held Thursday, February 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Admission is free.

"Botany and Maalang: Neo Pop-Surrealism" features Facey's newest work, “Seed,” which explores the magic of seed germination, a metaphor for life formation as a visual process.  It also highlights Namnath's work, which is an immersion in sight, sound and smell and recalls her native Thailand and its rich flora and fauna.

Facey is a new adjunct instructor at MiraCosta College and a professor emeritus in art and art history for the University of New Mexico. Facey has exhibited nationally for twenty-five years and his work has been awarded both a Guggenheim Fellowship in Painting and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting. Namnath is a celebrated installation artist and painter whose installation pieces and stunning paintings are widely admired for their innovative physicality and provocative surrealism. Namnath is currently concluding her MFA degree program at the Claremont Graduate School.
