Mexican Contemporary Dance Company, Lux Boreal, to Perform at MiraCosta College
Tijuana’s Contemporary Dance Company, Lux Boreal, will be performing at MiraCosta College this February as part of a three-day dance event that includes workshops, performances and lecture/demonstrations.
Lux Boreal, founded in 2002, consists of dancers from different regions of Mexico and Southern California who create and perform stage pieces that reflect strong social bonds. In recent years, Lux Boreal has rapidly grown to be a well-known company in the north of Mexico, where they are deeply involved in the arts movement.
“This year we wanted a younger, hipper show,” explains MiraCosta dance instructor David Massey. “We wanted something cutting edge and contemporary. We also want students and the community to experience that dance is intercultural; you don’t have to speak the same language to understand dance. Instead, dance becomes its own language, with its own culture and points of view. We think that Lux Boreal is a perfect fit for these goals.”
Lux Boreal’s performance is part of a three-day dance event presented by the North County Higher Education Alliance (NCHEA) and sponsored by MiraCosta College, CSU San Marcos and Palomar College. On Wednesday, February 6 at 7 p.m., CSU San Marcos is hosting a lecture/demonstration, Responsibility of Making Art: The Influence of Social Issues in the Creative Process. This event will be held in Room 111 of the Arts Building, located at CSU San Marcos, 333 S. Twin Oaks Valley Road, San Marcos. Admission is free. On Thursday, February 7, 7-9 p.m., Palomar College (located at 1140 W. Mission Rd. in San Marcos) is hosting a free master class with Lux Boreal in Building O, Room 2. The three-day event culminates with a performance by Lux Boreal in the MiraCosta College Theatre, 1 Barnard Drive Oceanside. The performance is scheduled for Friday, February 8 at 8 p.m. Admission is $12. Tickets are available on the MiraCosta College Events web page or by calling (760) 795-6815.
