MiraCosta College Chinese New Year Celebration
MiraCosta College is celebrating the Year of the Rat with special events planned at the San Elijo and Oceanside campuses February 12-29. All events are free and open to the public. Traditional Chinese lion dancers and music, free food and refreshments. Participants will have a chance to give a traditional Chinese red envelope to lion performers for good fortune.
- Chinese New Year College Hour Thursday, February 21, noon, Center of Oceanside Campus
Enjoy free food and music and watch demonstrations by Oceanside Shen Martial Arts School and MiraCosta’s very own Kung Fu Club.
- Acupuncture Presentation by Daniel Haun, LAc Monday, February 25, noon, Club Room, Oceanside Campus
Traditional Chinese medical techniques demonstration and tips on how to improve overall health and well-being.
- Lecture on history of kung fu by Mario Figueroa, Tuesday, February 26, noon-1 p.m., Aztlan B, Oceanside Campus
Master Mario Figueroa, who is featured in Kung Fu Magazine, gives a lecture on the history of kung fu and its journey to the Americas.
- Calligraphy Workshop by the MiraCosta College Chinese Club, Wednesday, February 27, 5-6 p.m., Club Room, Oceanside Campus
Chinese Club adviser Aubrey Kuan will demonstrate how to write Chinese characters using the traditional writing brush. Participants will have a chance to practice using the writing brush.
