MiraCosta College Hosts Second Annual Oceanside Jazz Festival
MiraCosta College is proud to announce the Second Annual Oceanside Jazz Festival, hosted by MiraCosta’s jazz ensemble, “Frequency,” and featuring special guest artist Kate Reid. The concerts will also highlight star performances by the festival’s top high school and college choirs as well as selected soloists. The event will feature two concerts that are scheduled for Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the MiraCosta College Theatre, 1 Barnard Dr., Oceanside. Kate Reid is an acclaimed Los Angeles jazz vocalist and pianist. She has worked with many noted artists including Mark Murphy, Jon Hendricks, Joe Williams, Maynard Ferguson, Rosemary Clooney, Mercer Ellington, Paul Ellington and the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Della Reese, the Manhattan Transfer, Lionel Hampton, Liza Minelli, and Tito Puente, to name a few. “Frequency” consists of eight women and eight men who perform high-energy classic and contemporary vocal jazz repertoire. Each singer performs on his/her own microphone and is expected to contribute solo repertoire as well. The choir sings a cappella music and also selections accompanied by a three-piece band. “Frequency” director Matt Falker is a full-time music instructor at MiraCosta College and also teaches piano, music fundamentals, and jazz history classes.
