MiraCosta College Presents An Evening with Poet
Juan Felipe Herrera
Join award-winning poet, author and educator Juan Felipe Herrera for a memorable evening sponsored by MiraCosta College’s Letters Department. A luminary among contemporary Latino writers, Herrera will lecture and read from his works Friday, April 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the foyer of the MiraCosta Library and Information Hub, Bldg. 1200, located at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. Admission to the event is free and open to the public.
Herrera is known for his books of poetry and prose, his performace and visual media art, his commitment to promoting positive values among young adult readers, and his involvement in education and community culture. The son of migrant farm workers, Herrera grew up in central and southern California. He has received degrees from UCLA, Stanford, and the University of Iowa and has authored more than twenty books, including “Akrilica,” “Facegames,” “Night Train to Tuxtla,” as well as a children’s book, “Calling the Doves,” for which he received the Ezra Jack Keats Award. He currently holds the Tomas Rivera Endowed Chair in Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside.
