MiraCosta College Presents "Dance Break 2008"

MiraCosta’s Dance Program will present an exciting dance concert featuring choreography by students and faculty in a variety of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, modern, tap, ballroom, commercial, Latin and world dance.  “Dance Break 2008” will be held Friday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. in the Theatre at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Dr., Oceanside.  Admission is $12; seniors, $10; students, $8. Directed by Trisha Hanada-Rogers and Dave Massey, “Dance Break 2008” will feature a variety of dance styles choreographed by the following faculty members:

• Trisha Hanada-Rogers (full-time faculty): A fast-paced, fully orchestrated tango for six couples; and an international rumba to music by Gotan Project.

• Dave Massey (full-time faculty): A tap piece with a large cast that revolves around a day at the park; and a jazz piece to music combining Gregorian chants and Imogen Heap. This piece is a multimedia experience which includes video projection.

• Sadie Weinberg (associate faculty): “Staring at the Sun,” a modern dance piece for eleven dancers set to music by TV on the Radio; and a contemporary ballet for eleven dancers set to Middle Eastern music.

• Kara Miller (associate faculty): An experimental modern dance piece for five dancers set to cello music, featuring video projection.

• Kimberly Gregg (associate faculty): An innovative modern dance piece performed to the music of Philip Glass.

The dance concert will also feature student choreography by dance majors currently enrolled in the choreography class at MiraCosta College.  Projects include dances in modern and hip hop.
