MiraCosta College Hosts Latino Graduation Celebration
The MiraCosta College 12th Annual Latino Graduation Celebration will be held May 16 at 6 p.m. in the Student Center Dining Room at MiraCosta, 1 Barnard Dr., Oceanside. Students earning certificates, associate degrees, as well as students from the Community Learning Center who will be earning adult high school diplomas, will be honored. Students will have the opportunity to publicly thank their families and friends, in English or Spanish, for assisting them in achieving their educational goals.
Keynote speaker will be Mr. Robert Rivas, operations manager and grant coordinator for Tri-City Medical Center. Rivas is also the founding president of Encuentros Leadership, a nonprofit group that provides mentors and assistance to reduce drop-out rates among Latino boys. The event will also feature a procession of the 2008 graduates and an Azteca Conch Celebration, a spiritual Aztec dance ceremony during which the graduates are blessed.
