MiraCosta College Dedicates 2008 Medal of Honor Program to Bill Foran
MiraCosta College is pleased to announce its 2008 Medal of Honor recipients, the college’s highest academic honor. The students will be honored at a luncheon to be held on the Oceanside campus May 10.
This year’s ceremony will be dedicated to the memory of Dr. William Foran, former Vice President of Student Services for MiraCosta College, who passed away May 2. Dr. Foran established the Medal of Honor program at the college in 1966 and continued to support the program even after his retirement in 1986. Dr. Foran attended almost every Medal of Honor ceremony over the years and was awarded a special commemorative medal at the event’s 40th anniversary ceremony.
Medals of Honor for Academic Excellence are awarded each year to 12 students who are nominated by the teaching faculty and who earn a minimum G.P.A. of 3.5 in degree-applicable courses. The event is sponsored by the MiraCosta College Foundation and each recipient is given a scholarship of at least $500 provided by community members, businesses, and service organizations.
