MiraCosta College Stages Former Carlsbad Resident's

'The 1940's Radio Hour'

MiraCosta College’s Theatre Department is proud to present “The 1940’s Radio Hour,” a fun-filled musical and comedic tour down memory lane written byformer Carlsbad resident Walton Jones. The play opens November 13 at the MiraCosta College Theatre, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. The play is directed by Tracy Williams.

“The 1940’s Radio Hour” premiered on Broadway in 1979, and Jones received a nomination for Outstanding Director of a Musical from Drama Desk in 1980. The play captures the spirit of the era and is set in a seedy New York radio station, which takes to the air during World War II to record a broadcast for the troops overseas. Big band music, swing dancing, quirky characters and good old-fashioned fun make this a must-see show.

The cast features Dan Windham as Bj Gibson, Ryan Kidd as Lou Cohn, Sassan Saffari as Stanley, Amanda Dane as Connie Miller and Adam Oliveras as Johnny Cantone. Others in the cast are Tom Brault, Richard Johnson, Laura Hellmers, Keykey Buche, David Bergstedt, Aimee Burdette, Michael Montano, Mario Gonzales, Bernard Kopsho and Laurel Burns.

The play runs November 13, 14, 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m.; and November 15, 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. General admission is $12; seniors, $10; students, $8. There will be a preview performance on November 12 at 7:30 p.m. All seats for preview night are $8.
