Dean Ramos
Art Instructor
Dean Ramos grew-up in Chicago and discovered his proclivity for art while in elementary school.
“I was always drawing,” he says. “Around fourth or fifth grade I was drawing well and I knew it was inevitable that I was meant to be an artist.”
Ramos attended North Park University in Chicago and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts in painting and drawing. During his undergraduate studies, he kept busy working as the assistant gallery director for Chicago’s Carlson Tower Art Gallery. In 1999, he moved to New Mexico to attend the University of New Mexico at Albuquerque, where he obtained a Master of Fine Arts in painting and drawing in 2002.
Ramos has experience teaching a variety of art classes at the University of New Mexico, Rio Grand High School and the Hardwood Art Center in Albuquerque. He has also displayed his artwork in galleries across the United States, including at an October 2005 exhibition in the Kruglak Gallery at MiraCosta College.
“When I came for the exhibition in October I had the chance to meet MiraCosta students and faculty,” says Ramos. “I was really impressed.”
Ramos teaches Art 100 Drawing and Composition, Art 101 Design and Color, Art 203 Life Drawing, and Art 206 Figure Painting. He says he particularly enjoys working and interacting with students.
“Working with students inspires me,” he explains. “I love to see them get excited about learning and help them discover what they are passionate about.”
Some of Ramos’ recent gold point drawings can be viewed at the Klaudia Marr Gallery.
