Lynne Miller
Anthropology Instructor
No plain old textbook teaching in Lynne Miller’s classes. A practicing anthropologist, Lynne brings a wealth of experience to her students. Lynne holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and biology from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and a doctorate in anthropology from UC Davis.
Lynne pent more than 10 years researching a population of wild monkeys in Venezuela and based her doctoral dissertation on the subject. For many years she spent each summer doing research in Costa Rica. Lynne taught at UCLA, UCSD and other colleges in California before joining the MiraCosta College staff in 2000. She teaches biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, archaeology, and primate behavior. She is also adviser to the college’s Roots and Shoots and Anthropology clubs. In spring 2005, she was named Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year.
“I love teaching. I come from a long line of teachers, so I kind of come to this naturally,” says Lynne. “I enjoy working with students and I enjoy giving lectures. It’s fun stuff to talk about.”
