Peggy Jones

Art Instructor

In the eight years Peggy Jones has taught at MiraCosta College she says the neatest thing was being named Outstanding Tenured Faculty Member, a student-initiated, student-administered award. “Having students say, ‘Wow, we think she’s wonderful’ is a thrill. I’ll always have that,” says Peggy, who holds a bachelor of arts and master of fine arts, both in studio art, from UC Irvine.

Her subjects at MiraCosta include traditional photography classes, digital photography, Adobe Photoshop, and introduction to digital arts. Off campus, Peggy is a practicing artist, for many years focusing on handmade “pinhole” cameras and the images made possible with these cameras. Her works have been displayed in numerous exhibits, including recent one-person shows at Grossmont College and CSU San Marcos, and her limited-edition books are included in collections at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Santa Monica, the George Eastman House in New York, the Center for Creative Photography in Arizona, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

“I love teaching. It’s about inspiring students to learn new skills and explore personal creative processes,” says Peggy. “Each day I go to work, I feel fortunate for the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for art.”
