Dimitri Egorov

Need help with math? What about physics? Chances are you can get it from Dimitri Egorov, a math tutor in MiraCosta’s Math Learning Center and the Tutoring and Academic Support Center.

Dimitri moved to California from Russia in spring of 2006.  His sister had already attended MiraCosta College and recommended the school to Dimitri, who says he automatically adjusted to the U.S. educational system.

“I like the way you can create your own schedule instead of having a strict one, like it was in my native country,” he explains.

Dimitri also likes math, diverting from his family’s long standing tradition of studying physics.

“My mother, father and stepfather were all physics majors.  We joke that physics runs in my blood, but so far, I enjoy math more,” he says.  “I like when you can use knowledge and apply it. I like the mathematical process and I like learning different techniques to solve a problem.”

Dimitri likes math so much that he became a math tutor at MiraCosta. He raves about the resources the school has for its students and offers some advice for those studying math: “Think through the problems and try not to rush.”

Dimitri will be transferring to UCSD in fall 2009 where he will study applied mathematics and electrical engineering. He says he hopes to ultimately earn a masters degree and perhaps a Ph.D.
