Kelle Anzalone
Kelle Anzalone decided to attend MiraCosta College after completing a term at the Art Institute of San Diego.
“I decided it wasn’t a good fit for me. My brother said, ‘Come check out MiraCosta College.’ So, I did and I fell in love.”
Kelle, a MiraCosta honors student, is transferring to UCSD, where she has interned for the past year in the film library. It is the perfect place for a student aspiring to get a master’s degree in film preservation.
“It’s actually called image archiving,” Kelle explains. “You take care of old film and make sure it is in good condition. You not only repair film but also catalog it and even perform research. That’s why we have a lot of the films we have today, like the ‘Wizard of Oz;’ they have been preserved.”
Kelle became interested in film preservation in high school, when she was watching a music video on MTV. The video contained old film images. Kelle researched the film in the movie and found out it was from the silent film era.
“I became interested in silent films and learned about film preservation. I thought that type of job would be fascinating.”
In order to obtain a master's degree in image archiving, Kelle will transfer to UCLA after completing a bachelor’s degree in communications from UCSD. Ultimately, she would like to earn a PhD and either work in the film industry or teach classes.
Kelle says she’s grateful that her brother had her check out MiraCosta College. She says she’ll also listen to the warning he gave her once he graduated from MiraCosta and transferred to UCSD.
“He told me that once I transfer, I’m really going to miss MiraCosta and I believe him. This college has been great. The counselors and faculty went above and beyond helping me out and giving me everything I needed. It really is a great school.”
