Samantha Morrow
Samantha Morrow moved from San Francisco to Encinitas because she wanted to live somewhere less urban. After the move, she also began thinking about making other life changes.
“I went to a series of revocation training classes and did a market survey of careers,” she explains. “I saw there clearly is a market need for accountants. Though I liked what I was doing at the time, I decided that a career in accounting would be an even better fit for me.”
Even though Samantha already has a bachelor’s degree and years of experience as a professional fund-raiser, she felt that obtaining a certificate from MiraCosta College would make her more marketable and more likely to obtain the type of position she wanted.
“I really liked the idea of getting practical skills and was impressed that at MiraCosta, in one year, you can have a certificate and be extremely marketable.”
Samantha decided to enroll at MiraCosta College and discovered that accounting is a good fit after all. In fact, after her first semester at MiraCosta, she was selected for the California CPA San Diego Chapter $500 Scholarship.
Samantha is now finishing up the required classes needed to obtain a Certificate of Competence in accounting. Her ultimate goal is to become a CPA and work in asset protection and estate planning. She says that part of her current success in the program is the positive experience she has had at MiraCosta College.
“I’ve been really happy here. I’ve been impressed with the faculty and with the diverse atmosphere the campus offers. In all, I’d say MiraCosta is a great fit!” |
