What Makes MiraCosta College Special

  • Our faculty: Students regularly rave about their professors and the personal attention they receive.
  • Our park-like campuses: Who wouldn’t enjoy going to classes on a campus that has ocean and mountain views (Oceanside) or a view of the lagoon and wildlife preserve (San Elijo)? Both campuses are just minutes from some of the best beaches in Southern California.
  • Our diverse student body: When a variety of ages, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds converge in the classroom, interesting things happen.
  • Our small classes: Because the average class is about 30, students get to know their classmates and their instructors.
  • Our University Transfer Center: Students who plan to transfer to a four-year university get on the right track through Transfer Admission Guarantees, “IGETC,” UniversityLink, and other transfer programs. MiraCosta has the highest transfer rate to University of California of all San Diego County community colleges.
  • Our MiraCosta “family”: Students and staff enjoy the friendly atmosphere here--the feeling that we’re here to help one another.

What Our Students Say

"I was 34 when I started here. MiraCosta has really opened up my life.  I think that MiraCosta is the best thing that Oceanside has.”

-Wanda Nieters, transferred to UC Berkeley

"The people here are willing to go the extra mile to make sure you succeed.  They told me to aim as high as I could.  They made sure I could make it to the school that I really wanted to go.”

-Rosemary Gutierrez, transferred to UC Riverside

“MiraCosta gave me a very good foundation.  At first I was very apprehensive that I got into nursing at age 40.  But I’m so happy I did it."

-Edward Niavez, Nursing student

"MiraCosta’s small size, beautiful campuses and great academic reputation made it perfect for me.”
-Lauren Battey, transferred to UCSD.

“Having the opportunity to work in a variety of sound and music fields helped me to realize what I wanted to do.  MiraCosta College led me in that direction. The education I received from all the staff at MiraCosta was invaluable in helping me to follow a path to truly rewarding employment.”

-John St. Claire, Music Technology graduate

"MiraCosta demonstrated to me that teachers can make a difference in your life and change your perspective on how you see the world."
--sociology instructor Bruce Hoskins, MiraCosta graduate

"It’s such a nice campus and the staff is amazing . . . every faculty member has given me some tool for success."
--Biotechnology student Deva Plumlee

“Unlike most kids, I was never pressured to go to college. In fact, before MiraCosta, I didn’t even know the differences between a master’s degree and a Ph.D.  Now, after Cornell, I plan to pursue an MBA.  I truly believe that the staff and education afforded by MiraCosta has put me in the position of where I am today.”

- Leo Baghdassarian, transferred to Cornell

“A big help was the Career Center. At first I thought the Career Center wouldn’t help me.  However, it was so much more than what I had expected. They showed me how to do an interview and helped me to do resume building.  That helped me get this great career.”

- Vincent Esguerra, Biotechnology graduate, hired at local biotechnology company
