MiraCosta College presents various performances focusing on the jazz music genre. Each event will showcase various ensembles, solo artists and even an orchestra helmed by MiraCosta College music students.
Jazz concerts for the month of May include:
Wednesday, May 16 at 7:30 p.m., in Studio A (Bldg. 2200) on the Oceanside Campus, located at 1 Barnard Drive. The evening concert will feature performances by the music majors in the Jazz and Commercial Applied Music Program. In addition, students in the Jazz Improvisation class will showcase the culmination of the semester of study. Scholarships will also be presented. General admission: $10; students/seniors, $8. Free for music students with ID.
Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m., in the Concert Hall, Bldg. 2400 on the Oceanside Campus, located at 1 Barnard Drive. The evening’s performance will be the final performance of the school year by the Frequency Vocal Jazz Ensemble. The event will feature selected soloists and small groups performing contemporary and classic jazz repertoire, primarily arranged by the students in the ensemble. General admission: $10; students/seniors, $8.
Friday, May 18 at 7:30 p.m., in the MiraCosta College Theatre, Oceanside Campus, located at 1 Barnard Drive. The MiraCosta Latin Jazz Orchestra will perform an evening of exciting repertoire from the Latin jazz genre. General admission: $10; students/seniors, $8.
Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m., in the MiraCosta College Theatre, Oceanside Campus, located at 1 Barnard Drive. MOJO (MiraCosta Oceanside Jazz Orchestra) and the MiraCosta Jazz Collective will share the stage for an eclectic evening of music in wide-ranging styles. Classic and contemporary jazz in both big band and combo formats will be featured. General admission: $10; students/seniors, $8.
