MiraCosta College Board of Trustees Elects President & Vice President for 2014

At its December 10 meeting, the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees re-elected Dr. David Broad as its board president and elected Jeanne Shannon, CPA, as vice president.

David Broad
Broad, a resident of Oceanside, is a first-term board member representing Area 6, northwest Oceanside. Broad retired as general manager of Genentech’s Oceanside Campus in 2008. He has been involved with MiraCosta College since 2001, initially helping set up a biotech-certificate program to train workers for the IDEC/Genentech facility, and then with the MiraCosta College Foundation, with which he remains active in raising money to help students meet their educational goals.

“I am a proud member of the MiraCosta College community and welcome the opportunity to lead the board as we continue to achieve the mission of the college,” said Broad. “MiraCosta is in an excellent place right now; we have a balanced budget, have invested in new science buildings to meet the burgeoning demand for classes in the sciences, and are intently focused on student success. It’s an exciting time to be here.”

Jeanne Shannon
Shannon, a Carmel Valley resident, was elected to the MiraCosta College board in November 2010 and represents Area 1, the most southern part of the district. Since 1991, Shannon has managed her own accounting and tax practice. She has also used her education background to teach accounting and tax classes at the University of San Diego and the University of Phoenix. She is active in the San Diego Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.

“MiraCosta College has focused on ensuring that it can continue to serve this region by providing high quality education to all who seek it while also maintaining a balanced budget and practicing fiscal responsibility,” said Jeanne. “As vice president, I hope to help assist the board continue to serve the college by providing leadership on issues like student success and growth.”

Both Broad and Shannon will serve one-year terms. For additional information about the MiraCosta College Board of Trustees, including meeting schedules, agendas and minutes, visit
