Effective Fall 2016, California Community College students receiving the Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver must meet minimum academic and progress standards to remain eligible for the BOG Fee Waiver and enrollment priority. Students who are on academic/progress probation/dismissal for two consecutive semesters will no longer qualify for a BOG Fee Waiver the following term.
What does that mean? It means that students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and must successfully complete more than 50% of attempted units. After Spring 2016 grades have been finalized, students will be notified by email if they are being placed on either academic (GPA) probation and/or progress probation. Your notification will inform you if you will lose your BOG eligibility, registration priority, or both.
This is based on new State regulations as part of California Community Colleges Board of Governors Student Success Initiative, designed to motivate students to graduate in a timely manner. For more information on academic and progress standards please refer to the College Catalog.

To check the status of your financial aid application, log onto your SURF account, go to Self Service, Student Center, and view your "To-Do List" on the right hand side of the page for document requests. To print the forms listed on your "To-Do List" click on the "more" button and you will be directed to a new page, which will include the forms link. You may also access the forms from our website at www.miracosta.edu/financialaid/. Please return the completed forms to the Financial Aid Office in Building 3000 for processing.
"To-Do List" items are required documents! Determination of Financial Aid eligibility and Financial Aid disbursements can only be completed after all requested forms have been submitted. After submitting the forms, please check your "To-Do List" often. Information you provide initially may lead to additional required documents.
Log onto SURF, go to Self Service, Student Center, click on View Financial Aid, and select the aid year to review financial aid cost of attendance and award information. MiraCosta College disburses financial aid funds approximately every two weeks once the add/drop deadline of the corresponding term has passed. Please refer to the MiraCosta College Financial Aid Office website (http://www.miracosta.edu/studentservices/financialaid/index.html) for additional information regarding disbursement dates.
Please remember that initial awards are subject to change! The awards are based on 12 units of enrollment and will be reduced for enrollment in less than 12 units. Awards may also be reduced based on information provided on "To-Do List" required documents. Financial Aid funds WILL NOT be disbursed until all "To-Do List" requirements are completed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Financial aid eligibility is based on units enrolled as of the add/drop date. Waitlisted units do not count toward enrollment and adjustments will not be made after the add/drop date when units are locked for financial aid eligibility purposes.
MiraCosta College partners with a third party servicer, HigherOne, to disburse financial aid funds. By doing so, we are able to disburse funds to students faster and more frequently. You may choose direct deposit to your current bank account, direct deposit to a Higher One account (HIGHER ONE ATM LOCATIONS), or a paper check by U.S. mail as your preferred method of financial aid delivery. A HigherOne debit MasterCard will be mailed to financial aid students in a bright green envelope; this packet will have instructions for account authentication and choosing the preferred disbursement method.
Important Note Regarding Copies: If the financial aid office is requesting copies of your documentation, please be sure to have them available prior to checking in at the front counter. The financial aid office will not be able to provide copies for you. Copy machines for student use are available in the lobby of the 3000 building for 10 cents per page (cash only), the Library for 10 cents per page (copy card or cash) and in the Bookstore for 10 cents per page (cash only), when the Library is closed.
