Planning for HSP
Upon acceptance into the Honors Scholar Program, students must enroll in a regular lecture class, hereafter, referred to as a “parent” class. Students select and enroll in any parent course, plus enroll in an Honors addendum. Parent courses and Honors addendums must be taken concurrently. The addendum is one additional hour a week (0 units) and contains a writing component and in-depth studies in a small setting with an honors instructor and honors students. The purpose of the addendum is to foster a more analytical and creative approach to course content. Upon successful completion of the honors addendum, students will have a notation of “Honors Scholar Program Seminar Completed” on their transcript.
Adding an Addendum
To add an honors addendum to the parent course, a student must complete an HSP add card. Add cards will be available in the University Transfer Center. Students must bring proof of their enrollment in the parent class to the University Transfer Center. Completed add cards are signed by the honors counselor. Students are to email HSP instructors of their intent to participate in the honors addendum..
Closed Classes
If you plan to enroll in an Honors addendum, but the parent course you intend to enroll in is closed, be sure to contact Ellen Goldin, Honors secretary, at (760) 795-6878 as soon as possible.
