Q. Are there any requirements to apply for MiraCosta scholarships?
A. To apply for MCC Foundation scholarships, students must have completed at least 12 units at MiraCosta or 6 units if you are working on a vocational certificate at the time of application. Outside scholarships have their own criteria that varies so students will need to check each application.
Q. When can I apply?
A. Applications for Foundation scholarships are accepted twice a year only: August thru October for the spring semester, and January thru March for the fall semester. Applications are not accepted after the posted deadline date. There are no awards made for the summer semester.
Q. I am still in high school. When can I apply for scholarships?
A. Area high school students should apply in January - March of the year they are graduating. If you are graduating mid-year, contact the Scholarship Office for information.
Q. How do grades affect my chances of getting a scholarship?
A. MiraCosta College scholarships are usually based on grades; the higher your GPA, the more consideration your application will be given. A minimum of 3.0 is required to apply.
Q. How much money can a scholarship give me?
A. MiraCosta College scholarships range from $500 to $1,000.
Q. Can the scholarship only be used for school?
A. Students are given a check in the amount of their award and may use the money any way they wish after they show proof of enrollment for the current semester.

Q. What other scholarships are out there?
A. There are many scholarships available through a variety of sources, including the internet. The Scholarship Office has a list of websites that provide free scholarship information. Applications from a variety of outside sources (service clubs, community and professional organizations, private foundations) are also available in the Scholarship Office.
