About the MiraCosta Foundation Scholarship Program

MiraCosta Foundation scholarships are available to current MiraCosta students, students transferring from MiraCosta to a 4-year institution, and high school seniors planning to attend MiraCosta after graduation. The majority of scholarships are funded by the MiraCosta College Foundation and are based on academic achievement.

The Scholarship Office also coordinates scholarships awarded to MiraCosta students from other private and public sources.  Scholarship information and websites are available for students to research and apply.  Review the available scholarships listed below, and visit the Scholarship office for additional information.

Scholarships Available

• MiraCosta College Foundation SPRING 2009 SCHOLARSHIPS for continuing MiraCosta students, transferring MiraCosta students, and high school students graduating in the fall and planning to attend MiraCosta for the spring 2009 semester. Deadline:  Friday, OCTOBER 17, 2008

• CCCSFAAA 2008 Scholarship Must be a MiraCosta student,  CA resident, have financial need, and has overcome unusual hardships.  Download application.  Deadline:  October 9, 2008

• GENENTECH Scholars Program   TEN $7,500 scholarships to sophomore community college students majoring in science, minimum 3.0 GPA.  Visit the website for details and Apply Online.  Deadline:  DECEMBER 1, 2008

• California Internship & Work Experience Association (CIWEA) 2009 Bernard L. Hyink Scholarship for students who have completed Internship, Work Experience or Co-op during the winter, spring, summer or fall 2008.  Deadline: December 8, 2008

• Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship Program honors excellence by supporting outstanding community college students, with financial need, transferring Fall 2009 to a 4-year college or university, complete their bachelor’s degree (up to $30,000/yr).  Go online for information.

• REAL ESTATE Scholarship.  Awards part-time and full-time Real Estate majors who completed one college-level Real Estate course prior to applying for the scholarship.  Download application, Guidelines, and Checklist.  Return completed applications to the Scholarship office (address above).  Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, apply today!  Deadline: March 16, 2009

• Bridges To The Future Program Grant assists underrepresented ethnic college students in completing transfer requirements in Biomedical Sciences: biology, chemistry, psychology, oceanography, computer science, mathematics, physics and related fields.  Information is available on both campuses or contact Denise Stillinger, MiraCosta Site Coordinator dstillinger@miracosta.edu

• $100 for Single Moms - income eligibile. (no deadline)

• Hispanic Scholarship Fund HSF has many scholarships available for college and high school students.  Visit the website for scholarship opportunities and Apply Online.

• Hispanic Scholarship Fund/Marathon Oil Corporation College Scholarship Program is a scholarship of up to $10,000 per year.  Be of Hispanic American, African American, Asian Pacific Islander American, or American Indian/Alaskan Native heritage; U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident, 3.0 GPA. Apply Online.  Deadline:  November 1, 2008

• Foundation for Developmental Disabilities Peterson Scholarship.  Scholarship for students planning a career/working in Child Development, Developmental Disabilities, or related field. A maximum of $3,000 per applicant may be awarded. Download application.  Deadline: 4:30p.m., November 21, 2008

• Hispanic Scholarship Fund/General College Scholarships designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree.  Apply online. Deadline:  February 18, 2009

• National Assoc. for the Education of HOMELESS Children & Youth - LeTendre Education Scholarships.  Two $1,500 scholarships awarded to students who are homeless, or have been homeless during their school attendance, and who demonstrate academic achievement.  Visit the website for details.  Deadline:  September 12, 2008

• Literacy* AmeriCorps, San Diego County.  11-month national service program 2008-09. $13,000 stipend and $4,725 education award towards tuition or student loans. Contact Kimberly Moore, (619) 574-1641 x104 or kmoore@literacysandiego.org. Program starts Sept. 22, 2008.

• NEWH Hospitality Industry   (Hotel/Restaurant Management, Architecture, Design, Culinary, Food Service, Travel & Tourism).  Visit the website for details or call NEWH Int'l (800) 593-NEWH. 

• MILITARY SPOUSE Career Advancement Accounts (CAA)  Will pay up to $3,000 per year for military spouses to train for a new career.  Visit the CAA website for program eligibility and attend an orientation.  Click here for Orientation Information.

• San Diego Women’s Network offers $500 scholarships to women in San Diego who are in need and attending a San Diego Community College.  Download the application and send to new address: San Diego Women's Network Scholarship, P.O. Box 882771  San Diego, CA 92168-2771 (effective 9/08). Fall Deadline: September 30; Spring Deadline: March 31.

• Music Scholarship.  Siguid I. and Jarmila H. Rislov Foundation awards exceptional classical musicians, including classical vocalists, who demonstrate promise.  Visit the website for information and application requirements.   

• AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP - National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.  For Native American college and technical school students.  Applications available in the scholarship office, Oceanside campus, and Administration, San Elijo Campus.

• AMERICAN INDIAN SCHOLARSHIP-Frances Crawford Marvin, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.  For full-time Native American college students. Applications available in the scholarship office, Oceanside, and Administration, San Elijo Campus.  Deadline for the Fall semester is February 1

• Pfizer's EPILEPSY Scholarship Award.  Visit the website for details.

• CA HEALTH PROFESSIONS Education Foundation  offers scholarships to health professional students enrolled or accepted into a CA accredited colleges. Visit the website for details.

• CA - Choose NURSING Scholarship Programs California Financial Aid Applications, Scholarships, and Related Information.  Visit the website for details.

• State Nursing Assumption Program of Loans for Education from the California State Aid Commission.  Visit the website for details or call (888) 224-7268.

• California Chafee Grant for FOSTER YOUTH - California Student Aid Commission. Money for foster youth for college or career training.  Visit the website for details 

• Just In Time FOSTER Care, San Diego.  Visit the website for details for former foster youth or call  (760) 505-6647 for more information.

• CAPF GUARDIAN Scholarships - former FOSTER youth exiting San Diego’s foster care system in their efforts to gain an education.   Visit the website for details.

• Orphan Foundation of America (OFA) serves FOSTER Youth providing college scholarships, connecting with mentors and internships, sending care packages, or testifying before Congress. 

• Casey Family Programs provides and improves and ultimately prevents the need for FOSTER care.  Visit the website.

• CANCER for College provides hope and inspiration to those who have battled cancer.  Cancer for College awards college scholarships to current and former cancer patients.  Visit the website for details.
