About the MiraCosta Foundation Scholarship Program

MiraCosta Foundation scholarships are available to current MiraCosta students, students transferring from MiraCosta to a 4-year institution, and high school seniors planning to attend MiraCosta after graduation. The majority of scholarships is funded by the MiraCosta College Foundation and is based on academic achievement.

The Scholarship Office also coordinates scholarships awarded to MiraCosta students from other private and public sources.  Scholarship information and websites are available for students to research and apply.  Review the available scholarships listed below, and visit the Scholarship office for additional information.

MiraCosta Scholarships

  • MiraCosta College Foundation VETERANS Assistance.  MiraCosta Foundation established a program in conjunction with the Victory Fund to provide financial assistance to Military Veterans attending MiraCosta College. Eligibility: must be an incoming or continuing MiraCosta student, military veteran with financial need.  An application and personal statement are required. Download Application and email it to sherrin@miracosta.edu   Completion of the application does not guarantee financial assistance, and all applicants will be notified in writing of the Victory Fund’s decision.
  • Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship provides up to $30,000 per year/each to 50 deserving students selected annually.  Eligibility: Students transferring to 4-year college, or recent graduate with AA, enrolling in a 4-year college for fall 2010 semester, GPA 3.5+, official transcripts, financial information, and letters of recommendation are required. Demonstrate academic achievement, critical-thinking ability, unmet financial need, will to succeed, and breadth of interests and activities. MiraCosta College can nominate up to two students. Review Application Materials prior to beginning the online application.  Visit the scholarship office if you have questions. Deadline for online application: 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2009 (no exceptions)
  • 2009-10 Community College REAL ESTATE Education Endowment Fund Scholarship, $400 semester, $800 per yr. Download Program Guidelines. Must be Real Estate major, completed a Real Estate course, enrolled in and complete six (6) units of Real Estate courses, meet income criteria, letter of recommendation from Real Estate instructor, renewal applicants must reapply.  Download Application and submit to the MiraCosta Financial Aid office.  Deadline: March 15, 2010 (1st come, 1st awarded)
  • BRIDGES To The Future Program Grant, MiraCosta & CSUSM, assisting community college students from underrepresented ethnic groups (Hispanic/Latino, African-American, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders) whose career objective is to be in the field of Biomedical Research Sciences: Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Oceanography, and Psychology.  Download application, or contact Denise Stillinger, MiraCosta Site Coordinator

  • Foundation for Developmental Disabilities Is offering the Peterson Scholarship, a resource for the leaders of tomorrow, for those planning a career or presently working in a Child Development program or in the field of Developmental Disabilities.   • FOSTER YOUTH Scholarships
    • California Chafee Grant for FOSTER YOUTH - California Student Aid Commission. Money for foster youth for college or career training.  Visit the website for details

    • CAPF Guardian Scholarship for former FOSTER youth has a new name: Promises2kids assisting youth exiting the San Diego foster care system in their efforts to gain an education.   Visit the website for details.
    • Orphan Foundation of America (OFA) serves FOSTER Youth providing college scholarships, connecting with mentors and internships, sending care packages, or testifying before Congress.

  • Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles

    (CHIRLA) Two $500 scholarships for 2010 academic year. CHIRLA is committed to developing leadership capacity and movement-building skills in California’s immigrant youth.   • Planet Professional Landscaping Network - 2010 PLANET Academic Excellence Foundation Scholarships to outstanding college students for continued study in the green industry.  Criteria: enrolled at a college or university that meets one of the following: has an accredited PLANET Landscape Contracting Curriculum, has a PLANET Student Chapter Membership, is a participating PLANET Student Career Days School (yes, MiraCosta College meets criteria).   • Garden Writers Association Foundation (GWAF) 2010 Spring Scholarship to students majoring in HORTICULTURE, PLANT SCIENCE or JOURNALISM to encourage them to develop career skills in home garden media communications; $500 for a student at a technical school or community college and $500 for a full-time college junior or senior.   • SOROPTIMIST INT'L - WOMEN'S Opportunity Award Three local Soroptimist Chapters: Rancho Bernardo, Oceanside/Carlsbad, and  La Jolla, are offering  scholarships for Women who have the primary financial responsibility of herself and dependents, are attending an undergraduate degree or vocational training program, and have financial need.  Download the Chapter's Application and Reference Forms or pick up a copy from the MiraCosta Scholarship office, Oceanside campus, or MiraCosta Administration Bldg., San Elijo campus.  Apply to one chapter only, duplicate applications will not be accepted, and the deadline dates vary below.

  • American Association of Women ACCOUNTANTS  San Diego Chapter 2009-2010 scholarships for male and female students currently enrolled at least part-time majoring in Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or Economics, 3.0 GPA. Include personal statement, transcript, and resume; Award $1,000 - $500 scholarships and recipients receive 1-year free student membership in San Diego Chapter of ASWA.   • Claremont Winds Young Artists Scholarship Competition (link to flyer)  scholarship competition for young MUSICIANS age 14 to 20 years (as of June 1, 2010) who are outstanding wind or percussion instrumentalists. Three students will win scholarship awards totaling $1,100 as well as the opportunity to perform with the Claremont Winds at the 2010 spring concert. Download Application for details

  • The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation is offering the 2010 Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarships (creator /host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.) to students pursuing careers in Children's Media.   • The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) will award scholarships to outstanding students for fall 2010. Scholarships range from $2,500-$10,000 and are based on academic merit.   • CA HEALTH PROFESSIONS Education Foundation offers scholarships to health professional students enrolled or accepted into a CA accredited colleges. Visit the website for details.
  • CA Choose NURSING Scholarship Programs California Financial Aid Applications, Scholarships, and Related Information.  Visit the website for details.
  • CA State NURSING Assumption Program of Loans for Education from the California State Aid Commission.  Visit the website for details or call (888) 224-7268
  • California Strawberry Growers’ Fund Scholarship for children of strawberry farm workers who have at least one parent currently employed in the California strawberry harvest.  Applicants must be sponsored by a legitimate CA strawberry grower.  To apply, submit the application with an essay on education & career goals, high school transcript with SAT/ACT scores, official transcript, letters of recommendation, and Employment Verification by parents and employer in the strawberry industry

  • CANCER for College provides hope and inspiration to those who have battled cancer.  Cancer for College awards college scholarships to current and former cancer patients.  Visit the website for details.

  • CNCDA - California New CAR Dealers Association Scholarship Foundation awarded 73 scholarships for 2009-10 to students in AUTO TECH and AUTO management.  Applications for 2010-2011 school year will be available in early 2010

  • Corporation for National & Community Service serving Community and Country and AmeriCorps 
  • HOSPITALITY Industry Network NEWH scholarships for those pursuing a career in the Hospitality Industry (Hotel or Restaurant Management, Culinary, Food Service, Architecture, Design, etc.), who have completed half the requirements for a degree/certificate program, financial need, and 3.0 GPA.
