Scholarship Program

Requirements

Scholarships are available to both continuing MiraCosta students and area high school seniors planning to attend MiraCosta following graduation. Students who have already obtained a B.A. degree or higher are not eligible to apply. A maximum of three MiraCosta Foundation scholarships will be awarded per student during their tenure at the college.

Continuing MiraCosta students must have completed 12 units (six units for students pursuing a vocational certificate) at MiraCosta to be eligible to apply.

Seniors from area high schools are eligible to apply during the last semester of high school.

Scholarships are available for both full- and part-time students, and some transfer scholarships are awarded each semester to students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university. In addition to general scholarships, awards are also available in specific areas.

Most scholarships are funded annually through the MiraCosta College Foundation. Others are funded either annually or on a one-time basis by local service organizations, businesses and individuals.

Scholarships are awarded based on student achievement rather than financial need. Students should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA when applying and continuing MiraCosta students must be enrolled in at least 6 units to receive their scholarship award.

The majority of scholarships are not tied to specific criteria. There are, however, some scholarships designated for students meeting certain criteria, such as reentry students (students who are 25 years or older and returning to school), disabled students or students pursuing a specific major such as administration of justice, art, automotive technology, business, horticulture, writing, nursing, performing arts, and political science. Students do not apply for a specific scholarship; the Awards and Scholarships Committee match students to the appropriate scholarship based on information provided by the student on the application.
