Denisha Jones      Child Development 105

Title of Course: Program Planning and Curriculum Methods

Service Learning Assignment:
Students are given the option to complete 10 hours (15 for the certificate) in the Child Development Center at MiraCosta College.   They are asked to interact with the children and teachers in a way that helps them apply what they are learning in the course. After a two hour block of time, students are required to write about a small moment that happened in the classroom, first describing the moment and then reflecting on it. Students will submit 5 small moment papers to receive credit. If students do 15 hours of service, only 4 small moment papers are required.

Learning Objectives for the Service Learning Activity:

Students will have the opportunity to connect classroom knowledge on how young children develop and learn with real life experiences.  Specifically students who complete the service learning options will be able to see early childhood curriculum in action and understand how teachers utilize knowledge of child development to plan program and curriculum for young children.
