Title of Course: Child Behavior and Guidance

Service Learning Assignment:
Students in this course will work hands-on with children in a toddler, preschool, or elementary school environment for a minimum of ten hours throughout the semester.  By working hands-on with children, students will gain an understanding of child behavior and how adults may guide children in the classroom.  These experiences are connected to the course through field notes and reflections.  This is is one option for the main project in this course.

Learning Objectives for the Service Assignment:

Through direct experience in a classroom interacting with young children, students will demonstrate an understanding of:

1) Specific guidance techniques that may be helpful in working with individual children

2) How to design and/or modify a physical environment to support prosocial behaviors and guide children

3) How to design and/or modify a child's social environment to support prosocial behaviors and guide children
