Title of Course: General Chemistry

Service Learning Assignment:

There are 2 options:
1) A group of students creates a learning object for a local high school chemistry teacher.  The teacher will determine the topic and scope, and the format will be determined by the group in cooperation with the teacher.  There is no set number of hours for this option.

2) An individual student will work as a tutor or assistant for a local high school chemistry teacher, for a minimum of 10 hours.

Learning Objectives for Service Assignment:

1) Students learn best what they have taught others, so students should gain a more complete understanding of topics covered in class.

2) Students will gain an understanding of what high school science teaching is like:  challenges and rewards, etc.  Most of my students will not become teachers, but this will still help them participate as citizens in their communities.

Approved Service Locations:

Public high schools in San Diego County.
