Service Learning: Connecting College and Community
Service learning is a form of experiential education that partners academic instruction with community service. Students learn through participation in thoughtfully organized service activities that are course relevant and meet actual community needs.
Each semester approximately 75 courses at MiraCosta offer a service component either as an option or a requirement. Students are placed in a wide variety of non-profit organizations and public schools where they provide support services. These placements allow students to apply course theory in real world settings while making valuable community contributions.

"This was an experience of a lifetime. I was no longer a college student who only obtained knowledge from attending class and studying a textbook; I was living the experience and learning through my own experiences. I have never learned so much in one course as I did through my service learning."
~Nikki Liscotti, MiraCosta Student
