02/14/09 MiraCosta Drops A Close One to Southwestern

The MiraCosta Spartans couldn't quite close out the Jaguars of Southwestern College in a 54-58 loss. MiraCosta was led in scoring by CJ Harris (13), Adam Green (13), and Daniel Phair (12). The Spartans will be in action on Wednesday at home against Grossmont College for their last game of the year.  Tip off is at 7:00pm.

02/07/09 Spartans Win Two in a Row

The MiraCosta Spartans had a good week last week by avenging two earlier losses in the season.  The Spartans beat both Imperial Valley College and Cuyamaca College in back to back games using great intensity and team basketball.   Chris Raybon led the Spartans in scoring both nights (13 point and 22 points) but more importantly led by example in competing extremely hard. .

01/15/09 Spartans Give SD City All They Can Handle

On Wednesday night the MiraCosta Spartans played a great game of basketball.  They led 37-35 at halftime against the 3rd ranked team in the state of California.  The Spartans imposed their wills and got exactly what they wanted.  It was a close game, there were numerous lead changes and there was a great finish.  Down six with just under two minutes to play the Spartans made a run that ended with Thomas Nesbitt scoring a basket with no time left to tie the score.  Nesbitt was fouled but missed the free throw and in overtime the SD City College team just had to much.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday at Southwestern College at 5:00pm.

01/10/09 MiraCosta Drops Two in a Row

After starting 3-0 in conference play and after winning 5 out of their last 6 games the Spartans lost back to back games.  In the Cuyamaca game, the Spartans lost 70-64 and made a late run to give them a scare.  MiraCosta was led in scoring by Chris Raybon with 26 points.

01/05/09 Spartans Beat Miramar College and Improve to 3-0.

On Saturday night the Miracosta Men's basketball team went to Miramar College and came away with an important victory. Miramar had previously been in the state rankings and gave the Spartans a tough game.  In the end however, it was two big shots by sophomore Adam Green and a steal and two free throws by Freshman Daveon Woods to seal the victory.

The Spartans were balanced in scoring led by CJ Harris with 17 and Chris Raybon with 15. Also in double figure scoring was Adam Green and Daveon Woods.

With the win the Spartans improve to 3-0 in league and 9-7 overall. They are currently tied for first place with SD City College and have won their last four games in a row.

The Spartans are next in action on Wednesday against Imperial Valley College at home at 5:00pm.

12/19/08 MiraCosta Holds on for win over Palomar

The Spartans didn't play their best game of the year but did enough to beat cross-town rival Palomar college by a score of 73-72.  Daniel Phair led the Spartans in scoring with 20 points and Adam Green hit two important free throws with thirty seconds left in the game.

MiraCosta (7-7 2-0) also received important minutes from reserves Corey Clark, Daveon Woods and Lofton Gray.  The Spartans are currently 2-0 in conference play, tied for 1st place with San Diego City College.

MiraCosta plays next on December 29th at 7:00pm versus Porterville College.

12/08/08 Spartans Challenged In Tournament

Over the weekend at the Antelope Valley College Tournament the MiraCosta Men's Basketball team was put to the test.  In the opening round they were seeded against the host school (ranked 14th in the south) and gave them everything they could handle.  In the end, AVC's athleticism was the difference and the Spartans dropped their first game of the tournament.

On Saturday the Spartans came out inspired and played their best first half of the year.  After leading by twenty in the second half MiraCosta beat Glendale College 83-78.  The Spartan's tough defense held Glendale's leading scorer (averaging 28 points/game) to 16 points on 4 of 19 shooting.

Sunday brought MiraCosta the tough challenge of Moorpark College whose uptempo pressing style is unique and hard to play against.  Moorpark College (8-2, 15th in the State) trailed most of the game but in the last minute took the lead.  After missing freethrows in the last minute of the game MiraCosta tried to foul but no foul was called. Moorpark layed the ball up to take the lead by 3.  Chris Raybon inbounded the ball on a full court pass to CJ Harris with three seconds left, CJ caught the ball and banked in what looked to be a three point shot as time expired.  In a controversial call the referees called the basket a 2 point shot and MiraCosta lost by one, 86-85.

The Spartans received solid play from all-tournament selection Chris Raybon who lead the team in scoring each of the three games.

12/1/08 MiraCosta Splits Last Two Games

Last week the Spartans split a pair of games against good opponents.  In the first game the men's basketball team beat LA Harbor 87-81 and were led by Daniel Phair (21pts) Chris Raybon (17pts) and Thomas Nesbitt (17 pts).  Against Santa Ana College Chris Raybon led the Spartans in scoring with 24 points, converting 14-14 free throws. MiraCosta College (4-4) plays Mt. San Jacinto College Tuesday, 12-2-08, at 7pm at home.

11/20/08 MCC Drops Game to Rio Hondo College

In a close game at Rio Hondo College the Spartan Basketball team came up short in a 70-78 loss.  The Spartans were led in scoring by Chris Raybon (18 points) and Daniel Phair (17 points).  Freshman Daveon Woods added 14 points and took two charges.

MiraCosta (3-3) is in action next on Saturday at 5:00 pm at home versus L.A. Harbor College.

11/17/08 Spartans Split Games on Porterville Road Trip

After losing to a very experienced Reedley College (3-1) team, the MiraCosta men's basketball team stayed focused and beat Porterville College by 21.  The Spartans were led the frist night by freshman Thomas Nesbitt (16 points) and the second game by CJ Harris (27 points).  MiraCosta is now 3-2 on the season.

11/11/08 MiraCosta Opens Season With Two Wins
