The 2009 season will mark the seventh intercollegiate soccer season as a head coach for Evan Camperell. It will also mark his third men's soccer season at the helm of MiraCosta College. Camperell started from scratch the new men's soccer program at MiraCosta in 2007. The MiraCosta men's program is the second men's intercollegiate program he has started. At the intercollegiate level Camperell has served as a head coach within the NCAA Division III, NAIA, and currently within the California Community College System.
Most recently (2006) Camperell served as the Head Women's Soccer Coach and as a Movement Arts (Physical
Education) Faculty Instructor at Eastern Nazarene College located in Quincy (MA).
Prior to ENC, Camperell served as the Head Soccer Coach at Alliant International University-San Diego
(CA) for two and a half years. Camperell served as the Head Coach for the Men’s & Women’s Soccer Program at AIU from January 2004 through June 2006. In addition to his coaching duties at AIU, Camperell also served as the Director of Intramurals.
Just prior to coming to Alliant International University (CA), Camperell served at College of the Southwest in Hobbs (NM) for one year (2003). At Southwest, Camperell served as the Head Men's Soccer Coach and founded the inaugural Men's Soccer Program. Coach Camperell also served as a Physical Education & Health Faculty Instructor at the College.
Camperell is a local North San Diego (CA) County product. He played at Palomar Community College in San Marcos (CA) where the team captured its fourth consecutive Pacific Coast Conference Championship.
After his freshman and sophomore years Camperell transferred to play at N.C.A.A. Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference power University of Redlands in Redlands (CA).
Camperell earned his associate of arts degree from Palomar Community College (CA), his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Redlands (CA), and he obtained his master's degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University (CA). Camperell has also spent time studying within the Kinesiology Department at San Diego State University (CA). He holds two U.S.S.F. soccer coaching licenses and also holds an APEX Fitness personal trainer certification.
His coaching career spans the college, club, and high school ranks. At the intercollegiate level he has now coached at Eastern Nazarene College (Quincy MA) serving as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach, Alliant International University-San Diego (CA) serving as the Head Men’s & Women’s Soccer Coach, College of the Southwest (Hobbs NM) serving as the Head Men’s Soccer Coach, and Cuyamaca College (Rancho San Diego CA) serving as the Men’s Assistant Soccer Coach.
At the club and high school levels he has coached in San Diego (CA) with the San Diego Surf Soccer Club, San Diego Soccer Club-Pegasus, F.C. Heat Soccer Club and now currently with PQ Premier where he is acting as the Boy's Assistant Director of Coaching. He has coached the Boy’s and Girl’s Varsity at Calvin Christian High School and has also coached the Boy’s Varsity at Rancho Bernardo High School. He currently coaches the Girl's Varsity at San Dieguito High School Academy.
Coach Camperell’s philosophy is to compete at a championship level while maintaining the highest ideals of intercollegiate soccer. He values the cornerstone principles of “Mental Toughness” and “Extreme Desire”. He stresses teamwork and successful development of life values, promoting education and maintaining sensitivity to the academic commitment of student athletes.
Coach Camperell’s team philosophy is based on hard work, determination, teamwork, and constant movement off the ball. Camperell focuses on building a creative offensive style of play while still remaining balanced defensively.
Camperell is a native of San Diego California and enjoys outdoor recreation and physical activity. He currently resides in Encinitas California.
