Purpose
The purposes of the organization
of MEChA are the following:
To
promote awareness of Chicano/Mexicano Raza heritage, identity, and culture.
To
educate our people and acto on issues that affect our gente
To
encourage Chicano, Mexicano, and Raza students to further their education
so as to better serve and empower the community.
To
strive for equal social, education, economic, and political rights for
our people.
To
build alliances and to cooperate with local and national organizations
that are striving to further the cause of our pueblo.
To
better relations with other nationalities on campus, in the community,
and in society.
To
up hold the right of self-determination of all peoples and to work for
a new society based on peace with justice.
Structure:
This organization is nationwide.
The chapter at MiraCosta College is just one of many in the state of California,
Arizona, Nevada, Nuevo Mexico, Texas and Utah, also know as the Southwest
(Aztlan), but we retain the right to determine our own course of action
under the general goal and objectives of the liberation of the Chicano,
Mexicano, and Raza. We participate in the regional MEChA Central, the statewide
MEChA, national Chicano conferences, and in progressive student networks.
