ATB - Ability-To-Benefit Information

Students who do not have a high school diploma or its equivalent and want to apply for financial aid will need to have an Ability-to-Benefit determination made before any Federal financial aid can be awarded. ATB examinees must be at least 18 years old before the start of the semester for which they wish to receive aid. You do need a referral from the Financial Aid Department.

This determination can be made by taking the reading, writing and arithmetic portions of the COMPASS ATB test at the MiraCosta College Testing Office.  You may walk into the Oceanside campus office or the San Elijo Tutoring Center to take the test. The schedule is as follows:

  • Oceanside Campus Bldg. 3000, Room 3003
    Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
  • San Elijo Campus, Building 100, Room 101
    Library and Information Hub

    Monday-Friday  8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

If you wish to brush up on your English and math skills in preparation for this test, the Community Learning Center hosts a Community Learning Lab. Click here for more information:
