Matriculation = College Success
MiraCosta College wants you to achieve your educational goals. The matriculation process starts you on the right path and keeps you going with the information you need to arrive at your educational destination. Matriculation includes three components:
- Orientation introduces you to terminology, academic programs and student services and gives you planning tools you'll need to succeed at MiraCosta College.
- Assessment (Testing) includes English and math placement tests. You can't fail these tests –– they are designed to assess your knowledge and place you in the English or math class best suited to your skills.
- Academic Advisement provides you with information on which courses to take to meet your goals –– whether you're planning to transfer, earn an associate degree or vocational certificate. Also, your test scores and recommendations for placement in English and math classes will be reviewed.
Matriculate: Who me? Yes, you!
Students new to college who plan to transfer, earn an associate degree, earn a vocational certificate, improve basic skills, or are undecided on a goal need to matriculate. Matriculation is also helpful for students who are returning from a long absence. All matriculation services are free of charge and open to all.
Why should I?
Matriculation gives students information and tools to make informed decisions about achieving their educational goals. Assessment or an approved alternative is required to register in math and English classes. Matriculated students benefit because they are assigned priority enrollment privileges and can thus choose from a wider selection of classes.
When should I matriculate?
Matriculate after submitting an application to attend MiraCosta College and before registering for classes for the first time. If you cannot complete the process before registration, you may still register for classes for which you meet the prerequisites, but do plan to complete matriculation before you register for your next semester.
Where do I go?
MiraCosta College offers matriculation services (assessment, orientation and academic advisement) at both college locations. Students from the Oceanside, Carlsbad, San Dieguito districts and other students can complete testing, orientation and academic advisement during the spring semester. Additional information is available in the Testing Office in Student Services Building 3000, Room 3003 at the Oceanside Campus or in the Tutoring Services, Building 100, Room 101 at the San Elijo Campus in Cardiff.
