Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB)
Credit for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams vary among universities. It is very important for transfer students to consult the university catalogs or a MiraCosta counselor to determine how these exams are awarded credit.
The University of California has a system-wide policy of accepting AP scores of 3 or higher and IB Higher Level exam scores of 7 or higher, at minimum for university elective credit. Each campus determines how the credit will be used (i.e., subject credit, general education or breadth requirements, and/or graduation credit).
There is no system-wide acceptance of AP or IB exams for CSU. Each campus has its own policy. However, CSU will allow AP scores of 3 or higher for transfer students following the system-wide CSU GE requirements. AP scores are also acceptable for IGETC.
Note: IB scores are not acceptable for CSU GE certification or for IGETC. Visit the University of California - Pathways Website for specific information on how each UC uses AP and IB exams.
