NOTE: Windows XP Service Pack 1 does not have the pop-up blocker option. The following instructions refer only to Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Windows XP Service Pack 2 implements a Windows pop-up blocker on your computer. If a pop-up blocker is installed such as Pop-up Stopper, it may not work until after the Windows pop-up blocker is disabled. In addition, other software that requires the use of pop-ups such as WebCT and Outlook Web Access, also have features that will not work until the Windows pop-up blocker has been disabled.
To change Pop-up Blocker settings:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- In the Menu Bar, select Tools. Select Pop-up Blocker, click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
To see pop-up windows from a specific Web site, type the Web address/URL of the site in the Address of Web site to allow box. Click Add.
TIP: To temporarily allow a site to display pop-ups, click the Information Bar when notified that a pop-up has been blocked, select Temporarily Allow Pop-ups.
To block pop-ups even if they are launched when a link or button on a Web site is clicked/selected:
- Launch Internet Explorer.
- In the Menu Bar, select Tools. Select Pop-up Blocker, click Pop-up Blocker Settings.
- Set the Filter level to High located near the bottom of the dialog box.
NOTE: To see pop-ups that are blocked when this setting turned on, hold down the CTRL key while the window opens.
To change Pop-up Blocker settings in Mozilla FireFox:
- Launch FireFox.
- In the Menu Bar, click Tools. Select Options.
- Click on the Content tab.
- To see Pop-up windows, uncheck the Block pop-up windows box.
- To change pop-up settings for specific sites, click Exceptions.
