The program is designed for students with a minimum of one year English language training at high school or college level. This class may not be appropriate for advanced ESL students or students with a TOEFL score greater than 500. Students must be at least 18 years old.
Instructional components include:

The intensive English as a Second Language program provides individualized instruction in small classes. Dedicated professional faculty and state-of-the-art computer software make your learning experiences more effective.
EL&CSI students attend class 20 hours per week. Each session is eight weeks long; there are five sessions per year. Students may attend multiple sessions.
Student Services
Students receive academic advisement and assistance in applying to colleges and universities. In addition, they are issued MiraCosta College identification cards which entitle them to the use of the library and to reduced rates for many College activities such as plays, concerts, and guest lectures. The card may also be used to qualify for student rates at local movie theaters and other attractions.
EL&CSI students are invited to join the Cultural Exchange Organization, the second largest club on campus. The 117 registered members include both U.S. and international students. Students in the club coordinate events for the entire MiraCosta student body, including films, ethnic meals, discussion sessions, and celebration of holidays.
Information about housing is available on request. Off-campus housing is available for students to reside with a carefully screened local family to learn more about the culture and improve spoken English skills.
