Are you ready to take Spanish 102 Online?
Spanish 102 is EXTREMELY challenging; much more difficult than Spanish 101 in terms of the amount of material covered and the level of difficulty of that material. I HIGHLY reccommend that this course be taken on ground if at all possible. To succeed in a Spanish 102 online course, you must be a highly independent learner with superior study habits and preferably have received at least a B in Spanish 101. For Spanish 102, you must be able to dedicate approximately 15 hours per week to this class since we will be covering roughly one chapter every two weeks. How to get started
-
-
Purchase your hardbound textbook (Puntos de Partida,
Author:Knorre, Edition:8th)
at the MiraCosta bookstore
-
If you took Spanish 101 at MiraCosta, you already own 2 years of access to CENTRO and should skip to the instructions with the course code below. If not, click here and click on "Bookstore" to purchase the 2 parts of the workbook on CENTRO. Type in "Puntos de Partida" and purchase:
1) 8th edition of the online workbook (written portion)
2) 8th edition of the lab manual (listening portion).
Click here to get the course code and the CENTRO registration instructions.
-
Click here to see if your computer meets the technical requirements for online courses. Also, if you are able to come to campus, there are computers you may use in our Language Laboratory in 4701 (where the orientations will be held).
-
If you do not have a microphone on your computer, please purchase one; you will need it to do your required conversation practice. Headset microphones come in many brands such as Logitech or Plantronics and others that work just fine. These headset microphones can be purchased at Costco, Circuit City, Walmart, Best Buy, etc…
.

Once the class goes live on January 20th, login to Blackboard and take the first day of class quiz by Tuesday, January 20th at midnight. Submitting this form will be the equivalent of attending the first day of class. Failure to do so may cause you to be dropped from the class (equivalent of “no show” at first class) since there will no doubt be many students waiting to get in.
-
Login to Blackboard to start class on Tuesday, January 20th or earlier if you'd like to get a headstart. Once you have access to the course on Blackboard, please send ALL emails to me through Blackboard. To do this, click on Communication then Send Email and send to instructor. By week two, I will ONLY respond to emails originating from Blackboard as described here.
Testing
-
The midterm exam will cover Cahpter 6 through Chapter 8and must be taken in Academic Proctoring Center at your convenience on the test dates listed on the Calendario. You may take the test with a proctor verified by our Proctoring Center and at another Testing Center at a college near you or, if you are in a military stationed far away, with a military proctor verified by our Proctoring Center.
-
The Final exam will be comprehensive with a heavier emphasis on Chapter 9 - Chapter 11. It too must be taken in the Academic Proctoring Center or with another verified proctor at your convenience on the test dates listed on the Calendario.
-
The oral exam will be taken on the day and time that is convenient for you during the last week of classes. A signup sheet and a review sheet will be available on Blackboard. You may take it in person (my preference) or online, but if you opt to take it online, you MUST have a webcam so that I can see you. If you do not have a functioning webcam, you may not take this speaking exam online. Plan ahead to make sure that your technology supports your academic goals.
-
All other quizzes, recorded conversations and other assignments will be completed, recorded and turned in online through Blackboard or CENTRO by the date designated on the calendar.
