Statement  
 

The essence of my artwork comes from the dark aspects of my creative nature.  Art provides an escape from reality into a state of mind where I can create impossible things.  I consider myself a romantic at heart. Most of my work borders on the surreal and carries an overall dramatic tone.  My work is often inspired by various types of Spanish rock music and my fascination with the supernatural and dreams. I immerse myself in varied states of mind where I envision fantastic images with themes of love and violence.

I am interested in the savage beauty found in dark places. My work reflects both the dark and light aspects of the human condition.  I believe nothing can exist without love; and it is loving and being loved that has made my life and art what it is today.

     

Bio


  Diego Arias was born an American on September 23, 1983 to Mexican parents who immigrated to this country in search of a better future for their children.  Coming from a traditional Mexican family, Diego's parents did believe in art as a way of life. Although he was raised in Fallbrook, CA Diego managed to keep a strong connection with his native roots and culture.  However, he does not identify himself as a Chicano artist, but rather as a Mexican with a passion for art.  Since his youth his many sketchbooks have provided and ongoing space for visual discovery and personal artistic pursuits. The artist he admires most is Francisco de Goya, with a similar respect for Salvador Dali. Diego is currently studying traditional works of many Spanish masters, yet he is aspires to develop his visual interests and traditional skills in the realm of arts in technology.
