IMPORTANT NOTE on CLOSED Classes: All the online classes and many of the on-campus classes close quickly. You should register ASAP if you are interested in any class. If you change your mind, please drop the class immediately so others can enroll. If the class is closed, consider the Wait List procedures; be aware of the rules and the limitations. Otherwise, consider these options: 1) register for another section if available; 2) register for another class; 3) consider registering in a future semester; 4) show up for the first day of an on-campus class and discuss with the instructor; or 5) forget about it and move on. The instructor will not intervene with the wait list procedure.

Please be aware that, once a class reaches maximum enrollment and “closes,” on or after the first day of the semester, even if “available” spaces appear on SURF due to drops, it is within the instructor's complete discretion on whether to add more students at that time. Drops after the first day are normal attrition and are factored in when setting the maximum enrollment. The class has started and important assignments and subject matter have already been covered. Please do not email the instructor. Thank you for your understanding.

Teaching Philosophy/Style and Class Management/Activities

ACCT158 Online: Welcome to Business Math! In this class you will learn some very practical business math and accounting skills that you can put to use right away. While most students find this class to be challenging, they also find it to be extremely rewarding and gain a lot of valuable and useful information and practical skills for the workplace as well as their personal lives.

One of the valuable educational experiences you will obtain through taking this class is the completion of a group project. This group project will allow you to build a team together and apply the information you have learned during the semester to a real-world case project. While group projects can be challenging, the skills you gain through this exercise will help to prepare you for the workplace (this group project will be due towards the end of the semester).

As with all online courses, they can be convenient for those with hectic schedules. However, you must understand that this course is not self-paced. There will be assignments due each week. This class requires strong self-discipline, good time management skills and a pro-active attitude toward the class and assignments. Some students find that while convenient, online courses can be more difficult and time-consuming. Just remember that the time that you would have spent commuting in traffic can be put to good use in studying and preparation!

But it is not all work, work, work! We will also have lots of FUN together in this class. You will be gaining some very applicable business knowledge and skills through this course. At the same time, you will be creating a community in the online environment and have numerous opportunities to offer your unique input and experience into this classroom. I have taken several online classes myself and while they can be challenging, I also find them extremely rewarding.

I welcome student questions and emails and am available for office hours during the semester.

ACCT201 Online: Welcome to Financial Accounting! I want to welcome you to this class and to tell you right away that this is NOT an easy class (many of you have probably already heard this statement from your peers). However, as long as you apply yourself and take the time that is needed to learn the materials, I believe anyone can be successful in this class (the good news)! While most students find this class to be challenging, they also find it to be extremely rewarding and gain a lot of valuable and useful information and practical skills for the workplace as well as their personal lives.
